ON NOW @ The Fringe Club, Hong Kong
This project embodies my mission to harness live theatre for social impact and build community through shared storytelling. I led the conception, direction and touring production of Duncan Macmillan’s Every Brilliant Thing, developing a compact, suitcase-sized set to bring the play’s mental-health narrative into Hong Kong schools and various performances spaces, most notably the Fringe Club. We have not only staged multiple sold-out runs of this production, but we have also gained exceptional feedback from the public. Every Brilliant Thing has visited schools such as Harrow International School Hong Kong, Kellett School, Victoria Shanghai Academy and Wah Yan College Kowloon.

STARRING JAN BRINK AS ‘ROLAND’ and Lymari Alberts as ‘Marianne’
May 2025 @ The Fringe Club, Hong Kong
I was thrilled to take on both the set design and the role of Marianne in Nick Payne’s Constellations at the Fringe Club. The play’s exploration of love, fate, and multiple possibilities deeply resonated with me, and I aimed to reflect that through the set’s simplicity and subtlety. Playing Marianne allowed me to dive into the complexity of a physicist’s mind while navigating an intimate, emotional journey. It was a unique and rewarding experience to bring both the visual and emotional worlds of the play to life.
The open couple-Set design
Aurora Theatre & Italian Cultural Institute’s Dario Fo’s The Open Couple
Directed by Ryan King

Set Design by Lymari Alberts
Lighting Design by Marek Steenkamp
May 2022 - May 2022
This project showcases my ability to translate abstract concepts into concrete design, marrying material innovation with narrative clarity. I based the scenic concept on transparency as a dramatic and thematic principle. Every set piece was fabricated from clear acrylic to dissolve visual barriers between actors and audience. Dogville–style performance zones were marked directly on the stage floor, defining distinct areas for each scene’s emotional terrain. Above the playing space, I suspended large charcoal figure-study portraits, their raw, naked forms swaying gently to underscore the characters’ vulnerability and the play’s exploration of exposed truths.

““Lymari Alberts’ set design is powerful in its simplicity. The staging is spacious as effects and props are minimal, giving full focus to the band and agile cast… I, for one, was impressed not only by the skills of the actors and musicians, but of their creativity and attention to detail with their intricate set design, handmade puppets and costumes.” ”

Handcrafted forest on a shoestring: I transformed IKEA umbrella frames, paper, and hessian into wide, sculptural trees—built entirely in a 350-square-foot flat and rooftop, under tight budget and time constraints. A testament to imaginative problem-solving and theatrical ingenuity!
The amazing adventures of tambootie the puppet - Costume design
As I begin designing costumes for The Amazing Adventures of Tambootie the Puppet, a South African gem I’ll be directing in Hong Kong, I’m leaning into the messy, magical terrain of process art. This production is a riot of commedia dell’arte, circus flair, and the kind of surreal storytelling that only South African playwrights can conjure.
The costume style combines Italian Renaissance elegance with the sleek silhouette of the Shanghai cheongsam. It features off-white and black ruffled textures, along with Victorian and Edwardian carnival elements such as stripes and diamond patchwork crafted from silk-like fabric.
